Marchand sinois (ting tong)

About Me, Articles & News, General, Leisure & Fun September 21st, 2008

Ting Tong p vini! Nu al aster gato!!!

Since my early childhood, I have always known him as “Marchand Sinois” or even “Ting Tong”, a name given to him surely because of the siren which announces his arrival in the next minutes.

Filled with sweets of various varieties, he usually works in the northern part of the island, travelling in his small white car, transformed into a ‘van’ type vehicle.

During the school days, he usually sell his sweets in the yards of schools and colleges, but during weekends and school holidays, he goes round the villages, practically 6/7 days!

His ’siren’ can be heard from some 1 KM, and immediately after, you can see little groups of children gathering at the usual spots where he stops.

Gato Piaow, cravatte, sorbet, pixidou, superring, biscuits, gaufrettes, jus, bonbons tous kalité, he has practically everything!

I am pretty sure, loads of you might recognise him without whom, your childhood would have surely not been the same. Loads of memories, especially during those fun school holidays where all of us have been waiting for his arrival !

Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed. Restart Now?

General, Web & Tech September 20th, 2008

A few mins ago, while surfing a bit, with less than 5 tabs open,

BAOW! lol!

Fortunately, I had the option to recover my tabs just after the ‘restart’.

[btw, which included only 1 facebook tab]

In fact, I dont really use Google Chrome as my default browser, Firefox 3 still rules!

Even at work, I use Firefox 3 and IE 7.

Perhaps the reason for not having completely switched to Google Chrome is the lack of the loads of icons, even if some of them are not really used everyday.

What about you?  Still firefoxing too?

Fog/Mist in Port Louis!

Articles & News, General, Work-Boulot September 18th, 2008

lol, I nearly laughed at myself when I was on the way to the bus station… why?

I forgot at which time I had to take the bus to go back home since for the last 3 weeks, I reached home after 22hrs, sometimes even at 01 00hrs.

When I reached Port Louis today, I noticed something strange…

Not only that Port Louis was a bit “desert”, but something which I noticed for the first time, in the capital.

Some parts of Port Louis were covered with something which looked like “brouillard”.

Pic took some metres from DCDM Building, and on the pic you can see the van shuffle which takes DCDM Staff from Champs de Mars to Cathédrale, Port Louis and vice versa.

I wasn’t sure, but nevertheless before reaching office, I took some pics as usual since I already knew what was the topic for the next blog post! lol!

Some mins after my arrival in Office, some of my colleagues and myself were discussing if it was “brouillard”.

Someone said ” Zamais tone truv brouillard ki? Kot moi tous les zours ena! ”

“Na, dans Port Louis zamais mone truver!” was my reply!

Later during the day, Vishal came to me with the definitions of the words “Fog” and “Mist“.

The only difference between mist and fog is visibility. This phenomenon is called fog if the visibility is one kilometer or less. Otherwise it is known as mist. Seen from a distance, mist is bluish, while haze is more brownish. [source]

We finally came to the conclusion that It was actually a mist.

Anyway, watever it was, it did catched the attention of many people…

Perhaps if you were in Port Louis or live around here, You can say something?

Yupi no school!

Articles & News, General, Work-Boulot September 17th, 2008

Youpiiiii, due to heavy rainfall since yesterday night, no school today for primary, secondary and tertiary students but you may wonder, why am I happy?

lol, I am not a student anymore…

Well, just like me, there are loads of people there who will be happy today since

  • Pas pu gagne place diboute dans bis,
  • Simé pas pu bloker!

I think that for a working person, these reasons are enough to start a good day, reaching office in time, without any stress!

More important, dont forget your umbrella, and take care not to knock down others while you are walking around with your umbrella!
