2007 & its memories fading away, Welcoming 2008…

About Me, Blogging, Fun, General, Leisure, News, Web, Work-Boulot December 28th, 2007

Being the last post of 2007, i will be blogging abt this year’s event, followed by my expectations & resolutions for the coming year… For me, 2007 has been a year filled with lots of events

‚€€‡2007/8 ‚

€€ˆ

  • Uni’s 3rd & Final year period being hard but as well much enjoyable as the other years
  • End of my tertiary studies at uom and graduation ceremony
  • Submission of final year project, successfully and proudly completed
  • My first job (5months already) at dcdm consulting, after lots of favorable interviews in many other companies.
  • Lots of new colleagues who are as good as my unforgettable friends at the university
  • The different camping and outings organised among friends (uni & colleagues)
  • The huge amount of close friends i made this year

2007 has also been a year, which made me realise lots of things at uni, and in my personal life…

The importance of having friends on whom u can rely upon, The selfishness and unfaithfullness of a person, lots of memories, fortunately some among which, are already fading away… The hard work being accomplished, experience and satisfaction gained, without forgetting the time at which am leaving office these days, the record being 23:15hrs…

mfln373l.jpg

For the whole year, the only thing that turned comparing the resoltions i made in 2006 for 2007 to the reality of 2007,

  • Stop growing more taller (ok)
  • Stop being the problem-solver of everyone! (ok)
  • Stop Drinking Beer, drink more powerful !(ok)
  • Start to tell lies (not ok)
  • Change my Dj Name (according to Neha) it would now be DJ PasseLeTemps! (not ok)
  • Seriously become serious about serious studies (ok)
  • Finish my end of year project and exceed the expectations (ok)
  • Get at least +6% in my End Of Year CPA (not ok :-\ )
  • Get myself a new domain (ok)
  • Start Using a higher resolution, y not 1280×800? (ok)
  • Last But Not The Least PARTY !!!!!!!!!!!!! (ok)

One very big change in 2007 was in my life, and this had a ripple effect everywhere, up to the name of my blog….
but fortunately, another angel also made its appearance, bringing a huge smile :D

So, now lets talk about 2008 and its resolutions….

2008 will be a year full of challenges, starting right now!
Lots of work scheduled for the coming year, the first one being the submission of a project on the 4/5 Jan 2008, the one which i am currently working on till very late these days.

Here comes the resolutions, the same which i will be assessing the success & failures in exactly 1 year..

  • The end of my probation period (6months) at Dcdmc
  • Priority in life would be strictly professional.
  • Further studies (masters or msc) will be probably scheduled in 2009.
  • Bringing some changes at home, renovations etc… lol, mum pu happy :P
  • Finalizing some other changes in personal life…
  • Killing off the remains of some undesirable memories & some1 really disgusting & unfaithful.
  • Purchase of a new desktop or a laptop
  • Some physical exercise, ventre p sorti r tout fast food p manzer la when doing overtime hrs(just like 2day!)
  • Start Saving Money, lol !
  • Save money but new mobile, again :-)
  • Continue to enjoy life with those friends & colleagues who bring a smile everytime (arrete gonfler vous otres!)
  • Continue being funny hih, just as others like it ;)

To end i would like to thank all those who were with me during the whole year, i will try to quote the names, but plz, dont mind if some names are missing, perhaps i just forgot, or u didnt mean anything lol.
I insist on putting the names koz am sure, it will bring a smile to those who see their names here :-)

  • Family members ( mum, dad, Varsha, Deepa, Neha, Diya & all of the others … )
  • Uni friends ( close ones being : mantasha, jaya, sandra, yasmina, zainab, vissen, nitin, splash, vicky, azagen, fadil, dhotah, oudaye, geshwin, Kunal, Sheem, Shamini, Karishma, … )

Representing DCDM Consulting @ job fair

About Me, General, News, Work-Boulot September 6th, 2007

9:30am : i was asked if i am ready to talk in a presentation about my experience @ dcdm consulting…

9:35am   : was looking for someone to lend me a tie so that i could immediately leave for the university by taxi.

10:00am : Already in university, preparing to attend and talk in a presentation to promote DCDM Consulting, in the job fair organised by IS Society.

jobfair0.jpg

A job fair which i would qualify as amateurly-organised as they failed in the organisation. All conferences were cancelled due to lack, or ZERO presence of students in the supposingly-advertised conferences. Lot of money to a waste in organisation, it remained finally a job fair, wiz different companies at different stands, recruiting potential candidates for different posts.

 jobfair1.jpg

I would qualify the job fair as a PURELY POLITICAL EVENT for the coming student union election in the forthcoming weeks/months.

From 10hrs to about 16hrs, I was hence, at our stand, promoting our company, and looking for our potential candidates for vacancies starting from analysts, associate / software engineer and higher.

Its another big experience, to represent your company, despite again the lack of professionalism in the event organisation. However, i met lots of friends, and other ppl, interested in wat we do at DCDM Consulting, how we work and on wat.

jobfair21.jpg

DCDM Consulting, which was totally unknown to lots of ppl as they thought we were in accounting and auditing….no no no…. we deal wiz IT Consultancy, Outsourcing, Analysis and Software Development.

Moonwalker - She is ‘Leaving on a jet plane….’

About Me, Blogging, Fun, General, Leisure, News September 1st, 2007

we had a simply great day ! The last fun day before my swtheart finally leaves for china for her mbbs, tomorrow night :(

anyway, lets talk about today.

I left home at 715am and went to coco beach to take my swthrt (shaks) and her bro (Gov). We then headed towards 4bornes to attend a work session by Rotaract for some 2 hrs and after lunch there, we walked a bit to Orcard Centre, where my swt bought another souvenir bracelet for me, since i had lost her last gift.

We then headed to Jumbo Phoenix and then to Ebene where there was the highly advertised “MOONWALKER” .

moonwalker.jpg

At first sight, nothing extraordinary but u must first of all pay an entrance fee of rs25 per head and then another rs75 for each tour on the Moonwalker ‘manege’.

moonwalker-us.jpg

It was SO FUNNNNNNNNNNNN that we 3, had 2 tours each.

Goshhhhhhh, its frightening but very fun !
The Moonwalker can hold i think 2×14 persons on each tour and it turns around for about 5mins during which it revolves around and also rotates 360degress about itself, hanging u in the air a few times for some secs.

If u r lucky enought, u can get ur tshirt lifted up, or girls, beware, ur ‘jupe’ may reveal some secrets when u r upside down, lol…
I remember seeing and hearing coins rolling here and there, probably got out of the pockets of the ppl. Once, while i was watching from a distance, i even saw a “sandalette” being thrown out of the system, when it turned upside down.

Advice, Do not carry anything wiz u, not even specs, mobiles or keys!!!

That was the fun part for the last day….

***

As many of u are aware, my swthrt will be leaving mauritius tomorrow by a night flight to china, the Sun Yat Sen University for her MBBS.

I will be accompanying her to the airport wiz her parents (ya, things are now official between us) and then, as some of my friends, colleagues and cousins said;

  • pas blier ammene mouchoir (Vero)
  • airport pu deborder demain (i forgot :P)
  • boire boukoup delo pu to plorer (Neha)
  • So 2 dernier zours sa, laisse li amizer (mum)

well, i tried a lot to bring changes to this decision regarding going to china for mbbs but nothing has changed, still, i sincerely wish the best koz we gonna be together in some years, without forgetting the possibility for us to meet perhaps each year for hols.

heys gats, i luv u…..
Good luck and be back wiz ur MBBS

to cure me for those years spent away from u

“Leaving On A Jet Plane”

I’m … I’m …

All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go
I’m standin’ here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin’, it’s early morn
The taxi’s waitin’, he’s blowin’ his horn
Already I’m so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go

‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

snifffffffff snifffffffff :’(

e-commerce within mauritius?

Academics, Articles, Blogging, General, News, Technology, Web July 16th, 2007

The largest shopping mall in the world is operating all round the clock, millions of potential customers constantly on the move comparing prices here and there and placing their orders, which can take a few hrs to a few days before their delivery to the other end of the world.

Recently, someone told me that it took only 1 week for his newly acquired a laptop battery bought from ebay, to be delivered here in mauritius.
The Concept of the world as a small global village (or la ville, attention ena dimounes frustrer) is here, except in Mauritius.

The addition of Mauritius in the list of Paypal (posted by Josh) will surely boost e-shopping among our Mauritian fellows but not necessary within mauritius, at least, not for now.

e-banking has been introduced since long by SBM or MCB.
I tried SBM Online (guessed they stole the word online from уαѕнαkuη Oηliηe, hihi ), it works great but their security logging system sucks.
While playing with the system, my browser crashed and when u try to re-login into the system, u cant, koz, u had not properly logged off.
As a consequence, u have to wait for the system to kick you out, after some time, perhaps after 15-30 mins to be able to sign in again!

As reported in Express today, we are not ready to include e-shopping in our culture, but i think that it is not only our fault.

Mauritius, being a small island, surrounded by …[blabla], i find it rather difficult to introduce e-commerce, at least not immediately.

Why?

  • I dont think we have the appropriate laws and judicial structure to cater for cyber crime or ecommerce yet.Iust to quote, the mauritian hacker of the Government Portal was freed of all charges since his case was hanging in court for more than 2 years!
    More on Express
  • Also, i dont think that our ISPs or even authorities to have the required expertise to track down users yet.

    Some simple examples:
    - Nomad itself has some modems wandering around in mauritius, being used freely since months, without anyone knowing it lol
    - Frequent billing problems in telephone bills for adsl or myT users may also prove the lack of organisation at some part in the structure.

So, i doubt that they are ready to take such a challenge yet.

  • Most important issue, which will be most difficult to overcome is our daily culture and ways of getting things done.
You may be one of the highest modern/hi-tech person in mauritius, but i think you would prefer to spend some time looking for your items in a hypermarket than buying it online, just for the pleasure of spending some time with your family or without the work stress.

For many of us, doing our first e-shopping would be simply fun, but i dont think that we would do it for long, specially if it concerns something that can be easily bought from our hypermarkets or retailers.

On the other hand, e-buying a domain or hosting online or even books (mo pas lire), will be something nice in which i would be very much interested and encourage others to do.

Take your credit cards out,

2day, we gonna shop online!

So,

would u do it?

3 memorable years in uom come to an end…

About Me, Academics, Articles, Blogging, Fun, General, Leisure, News July 12th, 2007

After the huge success of my post about Internet Service Providers in Mauritius, today i will post about those 3 years(2004-2007) , which have unfortunately come to an end…

With the provisional results that were published on last friday, many of us are now looking for full time jobs while others are looking for parti time ones, while completing their remaining modules and also, some already working right now. Each of us, will be walking on separate paths as from now, except if we work together of course (bizin sipporte zotte encore, lol )

The First day in uni as if, it was yesterday…
The 16th august 2004, on the first day of our first semester at The University Of Mauritius.
As instructed on the Orientation Day(held a few days before), most of us went directly to the Phase I Building, Faculty Of Engineering, except some of us who already had some friends in the group, like Splash and me.
We met in front of the Auditorium and then, went to our first lecture, by a lecturer, who succeeded in fooling us by bringing some old computer parts in the lecture, which made most of us think that the module will make us learn how to assemble computers!
grrr!
In this module, we spent the rest of the year, connecting wires and leds or solving binary problems!

In the following week, i made myself some friends, like the first ones were jaya, mantasha, vissen i think so. We exchanged our phone numbers and from then, we formed our own CSE Executive Group with about 15 of us, hanging around together all the time !

Initially 50 on the first day, the class quickly grew smaller down to 40 at the end of 1st year, and down to 28, at the end of this 3rd year.
Still, i think only about 15-20 will be graduating this year, and good luck to all those who still have 1 year to enjoy themselves :D

During those 3 years, we did study but we enjoyed a lot ( more than u can imagine ) and most of these moments, have been added in our cse blog, which i created some weeks after we started our bsc (hons) computer science and engineering course.

We celebrated a lot of birthday parties “avec les moyens du bord”,

Drank a lot ( including water of course) and without forgetting “prend nissa r camarades” (more at the bottom)

Designing and Constructing bridges (sa kant fini boire :P )

Without forgetting the day were some of us fell into the water!

also, a lot of group work (starting one day before deadline), lot of class work, distributing parts of each number to everyone.

In our first year, Some of the most important points/events were

  • The famous BMX Cycle of Mr Azagen

  • Our UNO or parties de cartes in the Common
  • The false “alerte a la bombe”
  • Our visit to Lake Point (Patinoire)

  • Change of our Form master, lol, na, we call it course coordinator here in uni!
From mr Ramdanee to mme Baichoo
  • Birthday parties of pizon, vissen, myself, mantasha and zainab
  • Our first formal presentation, which was fun!
  • The start of our “cascade parties”

Next came the 2nd year memories, among which

  • Dieheart (Vicks) making his entry into our corome!
  • more Birthdays: azagen, dhota.
  • Badminton craze

  • CSE (yashvin, vissen, jaya, mantasha, sandra and geshwin) In newspapers

  • Holi celebrated by geshwin
  • Group work @ vissen’s place
  • CSE working for galaxy
  • Visit to Infotech 2005
  • and Me, getting a girlfriend (shuuuuut), LOL :shy: following hi5 craze

and finally, the 3rd year;

  • Kunal’s BD and his Departure to canada (finally, il etait temps!)
  • Visit to Le Morne beach

  • having fun in networks lecture

  • Project :D, looking for partners, choosing title, starting the work, doing the project documentation, software, developing, debugging, debugging and debugging, did i say debugging?
Then submitting and doing the final year project presentation
  • and so much memories here, as if it was yesterday, writing memories on kunal’s souvenir tshirt!

During all these years, just to mention, a few quotes

  • Jean la neuf sa? Non, fek aster!
  • On phone:
“Bonjour, je m’appelle J.K, je vous ai telephoner TALERE LA”
    waaahhahahahaha
  • moulton or samou (lol, thats me!)
  • Ki lere la?
    5 roupies !
  • Kot slow?
li p encore vini la :P

Well, thats all from my part, the post is pretty long,

so

dont hesitate to add ur comments,
specially some of your favorite experience, moments and quotes!

Bilan of Internet Service Providers in Mauritius

Articles, General, News, Technology, Web July 5th, 2007

I thought i was, as usual, the only one unsatisfied about the internet connection i have however the whole majority of surfers seems to be complaining about their internet connection in Mauritius, be it, Nomad, ADSL, MyT or now even MTML.

A lot about my experience about the “high speed wireless reliable internet access” (Nomad) has been read here in this blog.

Its sure that people are fed with nomad as users and also, as visitors in this blog, thanks for ur patience.
[ You can read the whole range about nomad here ]

Mauritius Telecom and Telecom Plus offer the following;

  • Wanadoo ADSL
  • MyT

Mr Avinash Meetoo has been conducting a survey on the bandwidth available with the help of other persons.
According to his first results,

Simply said, we are getting much less than what we are paying for.

and finally, the latest on the market, MTML

as our new blogger friend, Azagen, says here in his first post

My complaints to MTML Services.
I’ve been using the services of these guy’s there since January. Since then, these people there have been messing and constantly fooling me. I’ve got so many problems with them that i had to go to ACIM to lodge a complaint about them. I have already sent a letter of six full pages to the ICTA to complain about the lack of responsibility and profesionalism of the people working there.

Till now, he is the only one known to have mtml in our class, and at the start, he was very proud of his 244 kbps connection :P
Seems now that his internet experience is no more the same.

However, i do know another friend, but till now, he hasnt been complaining about his connection

The views and experience of the different ISPs seems to differ depending on different factors;

  • Location ( myT and Nomad)Different people say different things about their connection, and it seems that different regions do not always give the same speed since the internet speed depends on the distance from the Relay(myT) or the BTS antenna (Nomad) and also, the degree of saturation.
  • Internet UsageThose using myT for mass downloading often complain about low speed, because they exceeded the garantie d’usage.

As for Nomad, many of the users do not even know how to use internet properly because of the huge nomad campaign to attract customers.

Sorry for the word, but huge majority of nomad users
    are simply “COUYON”

They either do not care about their connection, or are not aware that the problems they get are due to their ‘reliable’ connection.
Also, may of them, are ’shy’ to call the customer care…
Believe me, i know personally a lot of them.

  • Customer Care Experience

    A quote from many myT users;

    Customer care mari bon

So, it seems that they are highly help-full and reliable

    Unlike Nomad, where
    - You may be put on hold for even more than 10 mins
    - You may have to wait for their technicians or Customer Care agents to call you back for days!
    - The problems get solved by themselves, no explanation about the source of problem or even the solution applied

  • Tracking of resourcesThis applied to nomad, from personal experience and feedback.
Did you know that there are some users of nomad, who havent paid their monthly fees for month???

Also, i heard of someone who migrated to America, and who simply had “bouille so modem wiz lapaille dither” before going :P

Till now, Nomad, has not reported any of these cases and also, very often, they have huge billing errors in their monthly settlements!

  • Home InterventionI once got the feedback that myT technicians are very very quick to attend outdoors, sometimes coming home even without notice, lol.

    However, some friends got the following problem;
Telecom Plus automatically switched their ADSL connection to myT without notice for testing and consequently, they dont have any internet access.
This happenned in 2 known case
    - When technicians are supposed to come to upgrade ur connection
    - or when they test your lines to see for myT support.

As for Nomad, u have to wait for the day where technicians are deployed on the part of the island where u live. Just to add, Outdoor technicians at nomad are very limited (for the north, i know only 2)

mru

What about

your internet experience???

Security @ Ebene Cybercity, Tower 1

About Me, General, News, Technology July 4th, 2007

Ebene Cybercity, Tower 1…
the most intelligent building in Mauritius at least (thats what is being told)

well, many of u have sure been there and may have seen the security deployed there,at entry, or before entering the lifts…

The Control Room, has always amazed me…
I would be grateful to that person who could make me enter there and allow me to see if the screens are not just screensavers :P

however, i managed to see a security guard there, glaring at a screen, divided into more than 10 portions, displaying camera outputs.

kouma dire “24hr chrono” manke zis jack Bauer :P

well, i nearly forgot that, i took the pic of a Visitor Card, during my last visit, yesterday. Supposingly, i think, i dont have the right to take that pic, but it wasnt written anywhere :P

lol, its not so well protected after all.

anyway, thats only a visitor’s card and each person working at the cyber tower has a permanent access card, which i dont have yet :P

wish it is for soon :)

n thats only tower 1, there are 3 more towers… :P
