Fancy Fair at Saint Joseph’s College
About Me, Academics, Articles, Blogging, Fun, General, Leisure June 1st, 2008
Today’s was held the Fancy Fair at Saint Joseph’s College, my ex-college..

I was there, together with Javin, Purahoo and others, and as usual

It was very nice to see some of the old friends and all of our teachers after nearly 5 years!
We played lots of game but won none, that was the fun!
However i was very disappointed by the “Chambre D’horreur” which i paid rs50 to enter and waited nearly 1hr in a queue!
The above “Chambre d’horreur” was DULL!
Nothing to fear, i didnt even saw anything because of the dark, i only saw some of the organisers to walk with their torch saying “[pardon pardon, laisse passer]”

Except that part of the day, i was very happy to be back to my college after all those years and together with my friends, we talked about the old days, when we were studying there…

As we say;
JOSEPHIANS FOR LIFE!
Here am i, now a fresh graduate….

So, here goes the day after which can officially tell other “mone graduer!” in BSc(Hons) Computer Science & Engineering, but however, the certificate will be delivered in December! |
| My Parents & Myself reached Reduit at about 1245, time at which, it was begining to rain cats n dogs(lol). All the students were then redirected to a room where we were given the Gown(Robe) and the Cap, which we hired for a sum of rs450 for perhaps 2hrs!
Then, while the parents were seated, we were outside the auditorium hall, with our robe, all friends gathered after a long time, in a long line, sweating like never, since we wore both our suit n gown! Ene chance, there was a few fans. After about 1hr standing in that ‘queue’, we entered the hall, with our cap in our left hand, like in schools, everyone seated in their place. |

Just at that moment, ene faim leve bezer….Everyone i think (at least me) started to be hungry n thirsty…
Some 1 hr after, we ‘graduated’ finally and we had to wait another 1hr for the Faculty Of Agriculture students to graduate. |
hmm, just remembered a dialog mone larguer dan queue, outside hall.Among the queue, we mainly came from 3 departments, Computer Science & Enginneering and Information System, then Electronics and Computer Science and finally students of Agriculture.I told my friends:
And also, i could be seen making the clown with my capn how it should be work ‘properly’ After the graduation ceremony, we were again in a longue queue to have our pics taken by professional photographers, and also myself, pics which u can see in my photo gallery. We, students and parents then had refreshments in the cafeteria… Au menu, Jus Sunquick, Coffee et bajia, lol, situation financiere oblige a l’universite de maurice hmm, then, my day ended in another atmosphere, in shaks’ home, both families gathered together, sharing some words for about 1 hr ….. Nice ending, which was not unexpected

e-commerce within mauritius?
Academics, Articles, Blogging, General, News, Technology, Web July 16th, 2007
The largest shopping mall in the world is operating all round the clock, millions of potential customers constantly on the move comparing prices here and there and placing their orders, which can take a few hrs to a few days before their delivery to the other end of the world.

Recently, someone told me that it took only 1 week for his newly acquired a laptop battery bought from ebay, to be delivered here in mauritius.
The Concept of the world as a small global village (or la ville, attention ena dimounes frustrer) is here, except in Mauritius.
The addition of Mauritius in the list of Paypal (posted by Josh) will surely boost e-shopping among our Mauritian fellows but not necessary within mauritius, at least, not for now.
e-banking has been introduced since long by SBM or MCB.
I tried SBM Online (guessed they stole the word online from уαѕнαkuη Oηliηe, hihi ), it works great but their security logging system sucks.
While playing with the system, my browser crashed and when u try to re-login into the system, u cant, koz, u had not properly logged off.
As a consequence, u have to wait for the system to kick you out, after some time, perhaps after 15-30 mins to be able to sign in again!

As reported in Express today, we are not ready to include e-shopping in our culture, but i think that it is not only our fault.
Mauritius, being a small island, surrounded by …[blabla], i find it rather difficult to introduce e-commerce, at least not immediately.
Why?
- I dont think we have the appropriate laws and judicial structure to cater for cyber crime or ecommerce yet.Iust to quote, the mauritian hacker of the Government Portal was freed of all charges since his case was hanging in court for more than 2 years!
More on Express
- Also, i dont think that our ISPs or even authorities to have the required expertise to track down users yet.

Some simple examples:
- Nomad itself has some modems wandering around in mauritius, being used freely since months, without anyone knowing it lol
- Frequent billing problems in telephone bills for adsl or myT users may also prove the lack of organisation at some part in the structure. So, i doubt that they are ready to take such a challenge yet.
- Most important issue, which will be most difficult to overcome is our daily culture and ways of getting things done.
You may be one of the highest modern/hi-tech person in mauritius, but i think you would prefer to spend some time looking for your items in a hypermarket than buying it online, just for the pleasure of spending some time with your family or without the work stress.
For many of us, doing our first e-shopping would be simply fun, but i dont think that we would do it for long, specially if it concerns something that can be easily bought from our hypermarkets or retailers.
On the other hand, e-buying a domain or hosting online or even books (mo pas lire), will be something nice in which i would be very much interested and encourage others to do.
Take your credit cards out,
2day, we gonna shop online!
So,
would u do it?
3 memorable years in uom come to an end…
About Me, Academics, Articles, Blogging, Fun, General, Leisure, News July 12th, 2007
After the huge success of my post about Internet Service Providers in Mauritius, today i will post about those 3 years(2004-2007) , which have unfortunately come to an end…
With the provisional results that were published on last friday, many of us are now looking for full time jobs while others are looking for parti time ones, while completing their remaining modules and also, some already working right now. Each of us, will be walking on separate paths as from now, except if we work together of course (bizin sipporte zotte encore, lol )
The First day in uni as if, it was yesterday…
The 16th august 2004, on the first day of our first semester at The University Of Mauritius.
As instructed on the Orientation Day(held a few days before), most of us went directly to the Phase I Building, Faculty Of Engineering, except some of us who already had some friends in the group, like Splash and me.
We met in front of the Auditorium and then, went to our first lecture, by a lecturer, who succeeded in fooling us by bringing some old computer parts in the lecture, which made most of us think that the module will make us learn how to assemble computers!
grrr!
In this module, we spent the rest of the year, connecting wires and leds or solving binary problems!

In the following week, i made myself some friends, like the first ones were jaya, mantasha, vissen i think so. We exchanged our phone numbers and from then, we formed our own CSE Executive Group with about 15 of us, hanging around together all the time !
Initially 50 on the first day, the class quickly grew smaller down to 40 at the end of 1st year, and down to 28, at the end of this 3rd year.
Still, i think only about 15-20 will be graduating this year, and good luck to all those who still have 1 year to enjoy themselves

During those 3 years, we did study but we enjoyed a lot ( more than u can imagine ) and most of these moments, have been added in our cse blog, which i created some weeks after we started our bsc (hons) computer science and engineering course.
We celebrated a lot of birthday parties “avec les moyens du bord”,

Drank a lot ( including water of course) and without forgetting “prend nissa r camarades” (more at the bottom)

Designing and Constructing bridges (sa kant fini boire
)

Without forgetting the day were some of us fell into the water!

also, a lot of group work (starting one day before deadline), lot of class work, distributing parts of each number to everyone.

In our first year, Some of the most important points/events were
- The famous BMX Cycle of Mr Azagen

- Our UNO or parties de cartes in the Common
- The false “alerte a la bombe”
- Our visit to Lake Point (Patinoire)

- Change of our Form master, lol, na, we call it course coordinator here in uni!
From mr Ramdanee to mme Baichoo
- Birthday parties of pizon, vissen, myself, mantasha and zainab
- Creation of the CSE SKyblog - 55 pages
- Our first formal presentation, which was fun!
- The start of our “cascade parties”
Next came the 2nd year memories, among which
- Dieheart (Vicks) making his entry into our corome!
- more Birthdays: azagen, dhota.
- Badminton craze

- CSE (yashvin, vissen, jaya, mantasha, sandra and geshwin) In newspapers

- Holi celebrated by geshwin
- Group work @ vissen’s place
- CSE working for galaxy
- Visit to Infotech 2005
- and Me, getting a girlfriend (shuuuuut), LOL :shy: following hi5 craze
and finally, the 3rd year;
- Kunal’s BD and his Departure to canada (finally, il etait temps!)
- Visit to Le Morne beach

- having fun in networks lecture

- Project :D, looking for partners, choosing title, starting the work, doing the project documentation, software, developing, debugging, debugging and debugging, did i say debugging?
Then submitting and doing the final year project presentation
- and so much memories here, as if it was yesterday, writing memories on kunal’s souvenir tshirt!

During all these years, just to mention, a few quotes
- Jean la neuf sa? Non, fek aster!
- On phone:
“Bonjour, je m’appelle J.K, je vous ai telephoner TALERE LA”
waaahhahahahaha
- moulton or samou (lol, thats me!)
- Ki lere la?
5 roupies !- Kot slow?
li p encore vini la![]()
Well, thats all from my part, the post is pretty long,
so
dont hesitate to add ur comments,
specially some of your favorite experience, moments and quotes!

www.skreemr.com
- Direct Downloads
- Rating
- Results Preview

ya, the results preview is very cool.
u can listen to the song before downloading it, using its own web based player, which i suppose is of Ajax, just like its rating system.

U can also make it more handy by adding it to your firefox…

so,leave u here and hope to see you in the auditorium for the movies….
Final Year Project Presentation
About Me, Academics, Articles, General, Technology June 15th, 2007
finally, the day was here….
the day that most of us were awaiting since so long…
I woke up much earlier than usual, 530am, to get ready in time, and prepare everything i needed for the day.
ene coup aspirateur dan loto, ya, got the permission to take the car out to uni, special day, took a bath, met zoli chemise, cravate + pantalon and left home at about 730.

i reached uni at about 9hrs, after having met my swthrt n drove her to work(wai normal, pu ammene li popom imper, ine gagne loto).
Once in the lab (special thanks to all the lab attendants), i started to set up my own network, using my laptop, Vicky’s Laptop and his switch…
we were later joined by Splash and Etech(Azagen) with their laptops.
![]() |
![]() |
It was a pleasant atmosphere, not much stress, we were al joking and pulling the legs of our friends koz each one of us had different names, according to our laptops;
- Dual Core (Vicky)
- Dual Core 2 (Splash)
- Celeron (Etech)
- P4 (me)
again, big thnks to Vicky, Splash and Etech for helping me in my project demo.
Some mins after, our group grew bigger with the arrival of other friends, and last but not the least, my project partner, Sandra(late as usual for the past 3 yrs)
better late than never
![]()
we then, tested our software for a last time, still correcting some minor bugs and we carried out a draft presentation, in the lab itself…
At about 1115, we moved to room C, where i installed my laptop and my bluetooth
this was nice!
i used my mobile phone as a remote control to control my power point presentation. thus, no need to stand near the keyboard and press the keys at each time.
At about 1130, Our project Supervisor (Mr Pavaday) and our examiner (Mr Baichoo) showed up…
we immediately started our presentation which lasted for some 20 mins.

The Presentation went on smoothly and so was the demo, during which, all of our 3 software, managed to work correctly, giving 200% of themselves, without crashing or causing any errors…

that was our work, carried out for months!

well thats from our point of view…
after our presentation and that of our friends, we moved to Caudan where we ordered some pizza (wi mo koner, again! )
the traditional pic goes as follows ![]()

finally before leaving Caudan abt about 4pm, we had an interesting photo session…

The whole series of pictures can be viewed from my photo album…again, i wish to thank all those who offered their help and assistance during this project…
without u, it would have been impossible to do the project (kidding sa
)
Friends, it was a pleasure for the last 3 yrs to have been together and now its time, for some of us to leave the university (hope i will be in this batch, with no resits) but however, we wont ever forgot those moments, that will remain memorable…
[kouma dire mo p ekrire essay :S ]
leave u here, hope to get your comments in this post…
