My first day @ work at DCDM Consulting
About Me, Articles, Blogging, General, Work-Boulot July 23rd, 2007
The First day was here…..
Not exactly the “jour J” which everyone wants but i was really starting to get bored at home, nothing to do whole day.
Officially more than 1 month at home (15 juin - Project Presentation day to yesterday, 22 July)

so, i continue….
having got my job confirmation on last wednesday afternoon, i was asked to start my job on monday 23th july, as associate software engineer.
Yesterday, i got everything prepared, as some of u saw on my msn
Cravate…ok Chemise…ok Pantalon…ok Glace Soulier…ok
2main, working at DCDM Consulting, as associate software engineer
Got up a bit earlier today and i reached DCDM Consulting, Champs de Mars, Plouis at about 845, waited a bit and after i was welcomed there by HR dept, i was given to fill some forms for official purposes.

Then, at 10hrs, i was brought to visit the 5th floor, occupied by DCDM Consulting, meet each and every future colleague there and all the managers and finally ended with the lounge (tea room, u can say it like this)
Following the introduction to everyone there, another new joiner and myself had to go to the Accenture, 11th floor, CyberCity by means of DCDMC Transport.
Accenture had a vacancy for an analyst and since the other new joiner was recuited as analyst, she got preference and late in the evening, she got confirmation that she would join accenture in the following days to work on a specific project.
Meanwhile, i will be assigned another task in DCDMC itself, until i get assigned on some project, where my software engineering skills will be put at test for the first project.
At accenture, i met some friends, including Zainab, with whom i made a tour to WAY to get something to eat. Thnks zai for accompanying me
After our visit to accenture, we were brought back to Plouis where we met our manager who talked a bit wiz us, explaining practically everything which concerns us, the job, our role and the company.
i would like to add that all the (future) collegues and managers are all very friendly and the working environment is pleasant :DSo, a big HI to them if any of them happen to read this.
I am confident that we would be making a great team if we work together on some project in the very near future.
However i would get my working space, perhaps by tomorrow.
Then, we were given a document of 50 pages to read, and late in the evening, our manager questioned us a bit about that doc, but unfortunately for the first day, we hadnt learnt much and couldnt grasped everything written.
I left office (lol) at 520pm after having met the HR again to finalize who will be staying at DCDMC for the moment and who will work together wiz accenture.

fatiguer (lol) after this first day, i reached home nearly 615pm and at 6 40pm i started to blog about this very first day of my very first official job
Now am gonna to eat something, before coming back to chat a bit![]()
Its not something new but rather a practice that has been carrying out since months.

Perhaps if u r a grown up, you may not be aware of it but if u do watch MBC as from 15hrs daily, then am sure you will like the following post.
well, i lay somewhat between the two, lol, anyway, i took advantage of the last day am watching these by taking some pics of wat our children view daily, since as from monday, i will no more be a “chommeur en vacances” ![]()
Gonna work at DCDM Consulting as associate software engineer, to start wiz
So, lets come back to our post.
It concerns the continuous repetitive transmission of some video clips during the period 1500hrs to 1630hrs.
Everyday, the same and again the same clips are played back, practically at the same time schedule to “bousse trou” between 2 successive cartoons.
You can watch it once, twice but not during the whole week, lol, even for months!
Some of these clips are;
- Pigloo - le papa pinguin

- Bebe Lilly - Dans la jungle

- Bebe Lilly - Les Cowboys

- La marche des tongs

- Ilona - Laissez Nous Respirer

- Titou le lapinou
- Ma fleur vanille
Try to imagine, if in an elapse of 1hr30 u have so many broadcasts, what will happen during the next 3 weeks during school holidays?
anyway, i dont think i will ever get the opportunity to be home during those hrs, but for those who still have a long way to go, bon courage.
Due to the high frequency of those video clips broadcasts, most of the children
- know all the dance movements(lol) and the lyrics by heart, no matter if they dont know to count up to 10 but they know the songs
- also, u “gagne envie craze sa television la” but unfortunately, it wont stop those clips.
So, how do u find those clips?

e-commerce within mauritius?
Academics, Articles, Blogging, General, News, Technology, Web July 16th, 2007
The largest shopping mall in the world is operating all round the clock, millions of potential customers constantly on the move comparing prices here and there and placing their orders, which can take a few hrs to a few days before their delivery to the other end of the world.

Recently, someone told me that it took only 1 week for his newly acquired a laptop battery bought from ebay, to be delivered here in mauritius.
The Concept of the world as a small global village (or la ville, attention ena dimounes frustrer) is here, except in Mauritius.
The addition of Mauritius in the list of Paypal (posted by Josh) will surely boost e-shopping among our Mauritian fellows but not necessary within mauritius, at least, not for now.
e-banking has been introduced since long by SBM or MCB.
I tried SBM Online (guessed they stole the word online from уαѕнαkuη Oηliηe, hihi ), it works great but their security logging system sucks.
While playing with the system, my browser crashed and when u try to re-login into the system, u cant, koz, u had not properly logged off.
As a consequence, u have to wait for the system to kick you out, after some time, perhaps after 15-30 mins to be able to sign in again!

As reported in Express today, we are not ready to include e-shopping in our culture, but i think that it is not only our fault.
Mauritius, being a small island, surrounded by …[blabla], i find it rather difficult to introduce e-commerce, at least not immediately.
Why?
- I dont think we have the appropriate laws and judicial structure to cater for cyber crime or ecommerce yet.Iust to quote, the mauritian hacker of the Government Portal was freed of all charges since his case was hanging in court for more than 2 years!
More on Express
- Also, i dont think that our ISPs or even authorities to have the required expertise to track down users yet.

Some simple examples:
- Nomad itself has some modems wandering around in mauritius, being used freely since months, without anyone knowing it lol
- Frequent billing problems in telephone bills for adsl or myT users may also prove the lack of organisation at some part in the structure. So, i doubt that they are ready to take such a challenge yet.
- Most important issue, which will be most difficult to overcome is our daily culture and ways of getting things done.
You may be one of the highest modern/hi-tech person in mauritius, but i think you would prefer to spend some time looking for your items in a hypermarket than buying it online, just for the pleasure of spending some time with your family or without the work stress.
For many of us, doing our first e-shopping would be simply fun, but i dont think that we would do it for long, specially if it concerns something that can be easily bought from our hypermarkets or retailers.
On the other hand, e-buying a domain or hosting online or even books (mo pas lire), will be something nice in which i would be very much interested and encourage others to do.
Take your credit cards out,
2day, we gonna shop online!
So,
would u do it?
3 memorable years in uom come to an end…
About Me, Academics, Articles, Blogging, Fun, General, Leisure, News July 12th, 2007
After the huge success of my post about Internet Service Providers in Mauritius, today i will post about those 3 years(2004-2007) , which have unfortunately come to an end…
With the provisional results that were published on last friday, many of us are now looking for full time jobs while others are looking for parti time ones, while completing their remaining modules and also, some already working right now. Each of us, will be walking on separate paths as from now, except if we work together of course (bizin sipporte zotte encore, lol )
The First day in uni as if, it was yesterday…
The 16th august 2004, on the first day of our first semester at The University Of Mauritius.
As instructed on the Orientation Day(held a few days before), most of us went directly to the Phase I Building, Faculty Of Engineering, except some of us who already had some friends in the group, like Splash and me.
We met in front of the Auditorium and then, went to our first lecture, by a lecturer, who succeeded in fooling us by bringing some old computer parts in the lecture, which made most of us think that the module will make us learn how to assemble computers!
grrr!
In this module, we spent the rest of the year, connecting wires and leds or solving binary problems!

In the following week, i made myself some friends, like the first ones were jaya, mantasha, vissen i think so. We exchanged our phone numbers and from then, we formed our own CSE Executive Group with about 15 of us, hanging around together all the time !
Initially 50 on the first day, the class quickly grew smaller down to 40 at the end of 1st year, and down to 28, at the end of this 3rd year.
Still, i think only about 15-20 will be graduating this year, and good luck to all those who still have 1 year to enjoy themselves

During those 3 years, we did study but we enjoyed a lot ( more than u can imagine ) and most of these moments, have been added in our cse blog, which i created some weeks after we started our bsc (hons) computer science and engineering course.
We celebrated a lot of birthday parties “avec les moyens du bord”,

Drank a lot ( including water of course) and without forgetting “prend nissa r camarades” (more at the bottom)

Designing and Constructing bridges (sa kant fini boire
)

Without forgetting the day were some of us fell into the water!

also, a lot of group work (starting one day before deadline), lot of class work, distributing parts of each number to everyone.

In our first year, Some of the most important points/events were
- The famous BMX Cycle of Mr Azagen

- Our UNO or parties de cartes in the Common
- The false “alerte a la bombe”
- Our visit to Lake Point (Patinoire)

- Change of our Form master, lol, na, we call it course coordinator here in uni!
From mr Ramdanee to mme Baichoo
- Birthday parties of pizon, vissen, myself, mantasha and zainab
- Creation of the CSE SKyblog - 55 pages
- Our first formal presentation, which was fun!
- The start of our “cascade parties”
Next came the 2nd year memories, among which
- Dieheart (Vicks) making his entry into our corome!
- more Birthdays: azagen, dhota.
- Badminton craze

- CSE (yashvin, vissen, jaya, mantasha, sandra and geshwin) In newspapers

- Holi celebrated by geshwin
- Group work @ vissen’s place
- CSE working for galaxy
- Visit to Infotech 2005
- and Me, getting a girlfriend (shuuuuut), LOL :shy: following hi5 craze
and finally, the 3rd year;
- Kunal’s BD and his Departure to canada (finally, il etait temps!)
- Visit to Le Morne beach

- having fun in networks lecture

- Project :D, looking for partners, choosing title, starting the work, doing the project documentation, software, developing, debugging, debugging and debugging, did i say debugging?
Then submitting and doing the final year project presentation
- and so much memories here, as if it was yesterday, writing memories on kunal’s souvenir tshirt!

During all these years, just to mention, a few quotes
- Jean la neuf sa? Non, fek aster!
- On phone:
“Bonjour, je m’appelle J.K, je vous ai telephoner TALERE LA”
waaahhahahahaha
- moulton or samou (lol, thats me!)
- Ki lere la?
5 roupies !- Kot slow?
li p encore vini la![]()
Well, thats all from my part, the post is pretty long,
so
dont hesitate to add ur comments,
specially some of your favorite experience, moments and quotes!
Bilan of Internet Service Providers in Mauritius
Articles, General, News, Technology, Web July 5th, 2007
I thought i was, as usual, the only one unsatisfied about the internet connection i have however the whole majority of surfers seems to be complaining about their internet connection in Mauritius, be it, Nomad, ADSL, MyT or now even MTML.

A lot about my experience about the “high speed wireless reliable internet access” (Nomad) has been read here in this blog.

Its sure that people are fed with nomad as users and also, as visitors in this blog, thanks for ur patience.
[ You can read the whole range about nomad here ]
Mauritius Telecom and Telecom Plus offer the following;
- Wanadoo ADSL

- MyT

Mr Avinash Meetoo has been conducting a survey on the bandwidth available with the help of other persons.
According to his first results,
Simply said, we are getting much less than what we are paying for.
and finally, the latest on the market, MTML
![]()
as our new blogger friend, Azagen, says here in his first post
My complaints to MTML Services.
I’ve been using the services of these guy’s there since January. Since then, these people there have been messing and constantly fooling me. I’ve got so many problems with them that i had to go to ACIM to lodge a complaint about them. I have already sent a letter of six full pages to the ICTA to complain about the lack of responsibility and profesionalism of the people working there.
Till now, he is the only one known to have mtml in our class, and at the start, he was very proud of his 244 kbps connection ![]()
Seems now that his internet experience is no more the same.
However, i do know another friend, but till now, he hasnt been complaining about his connection

The views and experience of the different ISPs seems to differ depending on different factors;
- Location ( myT and Nomad)Different people say different things about their connection, and it seems that different regions do not always give the same speed since the internet speed depends on the distance from the Relay(myT) or the BTS antenna (Nomad) and also, the degree of saturation.
- Internet UsageThose using myT for mass downloading often complain about low speed, because they exceeded the garantie d’usage.
As for Nomad, many of the users do not even know how to use internet properly because of the huge nomad campaign to attract customers.
Sorry for the word, but huge majority of nomad users
are simply “COUYON”They either do not care about their connection, or are not aware that the problems they get are due to their ‘reliable’ connection.
Also, may of them, are ’shy’ to call the customer care…
Believe me, i know personally a lot of them.
- Customer Care Experience

A quote from many myT users;
Customer care mari bon
So, it seems that they are highly help-full and reliable
Unlike Nomad, where
- You may be put on hold for even more than 10 mins
- You may have to wait for their technicians or Customer Care agents to call you back for days!
- The problems get solved by themselves, no explanation about the source of problem or even the solution applied - Tracking of resourcesThis applied to nomad, from personal experience and feedback.
Did you know that there are some users of nomad, who havent paid their monthly fees for month???Also, i heard of someone who migrated to America, and who simply had “bouille so modem wiz lapaille dither” before going
Till now, Nomad, has not reported any of these cases and also, very often, they have huge billing errors in their monthly settlements!
- Home InterventionI once got the feedback that myT technicians are very very quick to attend outdoors, sometimes coming home even without notice, lol.
However, some friends got the following problem;
Telecom Plus automatically switched their ADSL connection to myT without notice for testing and consequently, they dont have any internet access.
This happenned in 2 known case
- When technicians are supposed to come to upgrade ur connection
- or when they test your lines to see for myT support. As for Nomad, u have to wait for the day where technicians are deployed on the part of the island where u live. Just to add, Outdoor technicians at nomad are very limited (for the north, i know only 2)

What about
your internet experience???
Security @ Ebene Cybercity, Tower 1
About Me, General, News, Technology July 4th, 2007
Ebene Cybercity, Tower 1…
the most intelligent building in Mauritius at least (thats what is being told)
well, many of u have sure been there and may have seen the security deployed there,at entry, or before entering the lifts…
The Control Room, has always amazed me…
I would be grateful to that person who could make me enter there and allow me to see if the screens are not just screensavers
however, i managed to see a security guard there, glaring at a screen, divided into more than 10 portions, displaying camera outputs.
kouma dire “24hr chrono” manke zis jack Bauer

well, i nearly forgot that, i took the pic of a Visitor Card, during my last visit, yesterday. Supposingly, i think, i dont have the right to take that pic, but it wasnt written anywhere

lol, its not so well protected after all.
anyway, thats only a visitor’s card and each person working at the cyber tower has a permanent access card, which i dont have yet
wish it is for soon
n thats only tower 1, there are 3 more towers… ![]()
LOL, 2 funny tracks…
Blogging, Fun, General, Leisure July 2nd, 2007
While going through my mp3, i came across 2 tracks, which are funny.
Perhaps, its not the first time u discovered them, but for me, it was..
