My blog… Am back!!!
About Me, Articles, Blogging, General, Technology October 30th, 2006
for 3 days, i was helpless since my hard disk was gone together with everything i had n which i hadnt done any backup yet.
meanwhile, i managed with Kubuntu Live but the problem is that each time, i used the laptop i had to install amsn, xmms for mp3, and other things i needed…it was a pain striking process!
but today i bought a 80 GB Samsung Laptop Hard disk @ rs 3900…
earlier i though to go for an external normal hard disk. In this case, i would boot my system from usb. Reasons for this was high hard disk price & also because of the fact that i could carry the external drive anywhere ( to copy things from here n there ).
in addition to these, given my battery is worn out, my ‘laptop’ does not run for more than 45 mins with its battery!
But then i abandoned this idea as the price difference was only rs1000.

HD Failure & Power Of Kubuntu
Articles, Blogging, General, Nomad, Technology October 27th, 2006
really one of the worst things that can happen to me!
my hard disk has crashed!
reason? well, its due to lack of care, but not from mine!
no hard disk, no windows, then how am blogging???
thats the power of Kubuntu Live

despite the hard disk being out of my laptop, with the Kubuntu Live CD you can run the Operating system and do anything u want…
blogging for instance or chat, word processing, everything u want…
but it takes a little more time to load since everything is stored in ur RAM Memory…
better wait for some mins than having to go to bed without my internet!
well, below is a screenshot of kubuntu…

try it someday, it may become useful when ur hard disk crashes.
One of the rare advantages of Nomad is that it works in Kubuntu without any need for configuration, lol, i dont know how to do any configuration in Kubuntu..well, only the basic ones.
well, leave u here…
anyone with a spare laptop hard disk is welcomed ![]()
am gonna buy the new one on monday i think…

my final year project
About Me, Academics, General, News, Programming October 24th, 2006
| As for any other student in uni, u got to present something at the end of the final year… For this final year, i will work together with Sandra and as project supervisor mr Pavaday. |
|
| Project title : | Implementing fingerprint based secure systems |
| Description : | I will have to develop applications which make use of biometrics (fingerprints) for implementing security. |
In brief, our main aim is to develop at least 3 complete applications;
|
|
| Equipment | ![]() ![]() |
| Programming Platforms | VB 6 and VB.net |
| The project itself is very very interesting since we know exactly what is expected from us and what we have to do to reach that expectation. Programming and working with the reader is not that difficult once you know how to use it. meanwhile, i dont have to use any passwords in my laptop anymore since i use the fingerprint reader to
Its great for us to be given this opportunity to work on this project, with this equipement and with mr pavaday. |

Happy Divali
General October 20th, 2006
Diwali (also called Deepavali, दीवाली or दीपावली ) is a major hindu, jain and sikh festival/celebration. Known as the “Festival of Lights,” it symbolises the victory of good over evil, and lamps are lit as a sign of celebration and hope for mankind. The reason for celebrating Diwali or Deepawali (lines of earthen lamps) is the return of Lord Ram, after killing Ravan (Demon) during his exile for 14 years.
On the day of Diwali, many wear new clothes, share sweets and light firecrackers

Happy Divali to everyone !

came back in my memory
sms gratos on Cell+
General October 20th, 2006
ya ya, sms was gratos on cellplus for some 1 hr or perhaps some mins…
one friend even told me that calls were gratos too…
i didnt try it but the sms ya, it worked… i had send only 4 sms…
Amizer mais pas Abizer!
ala, consequence koz after some time, sms became paying as usual, haha!
Good lesson for my sis since she had rs15 n send all kind of msgs everywhere, and now when she checked her account she has only Rs0.09!
as for call, i dont want to waste my credit just to check if its still working (i.e now @ 10:20am)
Special thought to Yogesh since he is sending me all kind of wishes, happy divali, eid, xmas..etc lol. mo croire li pas encore koner ki sms p recommence payer !
Something similar to this happened for emtel users some weeks back…
A friend working in the field explained the situation to me.
just by modifying ur sms message centre, emtel users could send sms freely.
in fact, technicians were testing the network for mtml service.
they make use of a special sms message centre to do their testing and unfortunately for them, the number was leaked out.
some time after, the whole of Mauritius (well at least a large amount ) were sending sms freely. But this stopped after a few days since the centre was deactivated. Some years back, free sms message centers were also available for use.
for instance, I remember, I was using a message centre from south Africa and I could send sms freely and the sms was delivered immediately unlike the case for cellplus users, which took, hours to be delivered.
Perhaps u remember, it was just when sms was free in Mauritius.
Just remember this
Nobody works for free nowadays!
(ene p encore plaigner a coter mwa, tous sa credit ine fini n demain divali!)
a gift….
ene mari probleme sa avant ressi rode kitchose pu donne ene tifi kdo…
thanks to jaya n mantasha ki ti accompagne mwa in rhill..
hmm, 2 bols halim + gato arrouille la pas ti mal
but finally i got it in plouis…

hope that u find it beautiful and most of all, hope that the person likes it and knows what she means to me after the 1 yr we been together…
Nomad in Pozition
General, Nomad, Technology, Web October 11th, 2006
Well, i finally found a good place to position my modem so that it gets signal from the antenna found 1 km from my place…
here is how i had to proceed…
- Place the modem temporarily without fixing wires so as to check where is the best place

- Phone customer care and politely ask them to fix my modem to the antenna of triolet, with no other antennas in their priority list..so if ever the antenna of triolet breaks down, my internet will be KO !
- Once the best place found, fix the wires along the walls from my study room to my room’s window where i fixed the modem with all kinds of rode for security measures

Well, after about 1 hr(!) i succeeded in my mission !
Now, am getting a good network coverage with full bandwidth availability…
but the question that remains is
FOR HOW LONG !!!
Definitions derived from Real Life
Academics, Articles, Programming October 11th, 2006
These following examples of definitions can be found in a book ( Advanced Java Networking ), sent by Vickss to the class mailing list…
The only interesting paragraphs i found up to now….
i looked for others, but could fine more :S
Each instance of the object maintains a similar-looking but entirely different set of variables. Changing the values in one instance does not result in a change in the values of the variables of the other instances. Remember, an instance of a class is like your BMW 328i convertible. It looks as cool as every other BMW 328i, but just because you modify yours to remove the annoying electronic inhibition of speed, that doesn’t mean every other BMW also will be changed!
Maybe you’re tired of driving your minivan because your husband (or wife) makes you! What you really want is a BMW Z3 roadster. So, you drive your Toyota van down to the nearest BMW dealer and trade it in for the Z3. Now, because you have a different car, does that mean you have to learn how to drive all over again?
This is obviously not the case (unless you just traded in a Volvo, in which case you have to learn to drive to begin with). That’s because the world, yes the same world that brought you Elvis and Hillary Clinton, is inherently object-oriented.
Code Reuse
Let’s say that you are putting together your son’s bicycle on Christmas morning. The instructions call for you to use a Phillips-head screwdriver. You take the screwdriver out of the toolbox, use it, and put it back. A few minutes later, you need the screwdriver again. Surely you would use the same screwdriver, not go to the hardware store and buy a new one!
Imagine your grandfather fishing in a stream. He knows that as long as he stays there, he’s going to get a bite. Somewhere, somehow, sometime a fish is going to come down that stream, and your grandfather is going to get it.
Just as your grandfather is the consumer of fish, your applications are either
consumers or providers of data. In Java, all input and output routines are handled through streams.
Let’s say you’re sitting in your living room watching another Washington Redskins victory. You get bored watching the massacre of the Dallas Cowboys, and you decide that you would like to see the 49ers game in progress. In the good old days, you would have to actually switch channels and choose between one or the other. But, these days, televisions have Picture-in-Picture (PIP) capability. By pressing the PIP button on your trusty remote control, you can watch the Redskins demolish the Cowboys on a little box in the corner of the TV while watching the 49ers on the rest
of the screen. This is a prime example of multithreaded programming. The little screen and the big screen share resources (in this case, the area of the full television screen), but they are
not able to affect one another.
